RMU falls in season finale, 59-48.

It was not pretty. In fact at times, it was downright ugly. The Colonials lost their final game to Wagner 59-48. The loss puts them at 19-12, 14-2 in the NEC.

While there are certainly a lot of things that are somewhat worry-some, there was one positive, nobody got hurt. That was my number one wish coming into a game that had no impact on the NEC tournament.

The Colonials came out hot, taking a 9-1 lead early. Karvel Anderson, who finished with 21 points, got his 1,000th point on a three pointer early in the contest. Congratulations to Karvel, that is very impressive for a guy who has been here only two years.
The Colonials need Lucky Jones to find his shot.
(Pitt sports report)

Wagner, down by as many as 11, then went on a 17-0 run to end the half taking a 30-22 lead into the half. In the second, the Seahawks maintained a safe lead for much of the half. The Colonials missed some open shots, and just couldn't find the offense to make another comeback.

Wagner was lead early by some insane shooting from Marcus Burton, who made four straight three's, two of which were from wayyyy down town. Burton finished with 15 and stretched the Colonials zone out quite a bit after his hot streak.

Kenny Ortiz finished with 18 points, and was able to penetrate the Colonials zone too many times. That is something RMU will need to fix up before the NEC tournament starts on Wednesday.

Thoughts:

Honestly, I'm not too worried about this loss at all. Wagner is hot (eight straight wins), it was their senior night (loaded senior class), and RMU played pretty bad. The Colonials didn't look like they wanted to win, more just wanted to get through the game.

RMU still had a chance under two minutes to cut it to a one possession game. So all things considered, Andy Toole and company should be okay.

Gotta find that shot:

However I did not say I'm "not worried at all."

Lucky Jones once again couldn't throw it into the ocean if he were standing in the sand. I don't mean to be too harsh on Luck, because he does soooo much well for this team. But 1-15 shooting, 1-10 from three is not good at all. Especially coming off a 2-14, 1-7 from three performance against FDU on Thursday.

To add to that, Chuck Oliver once again stunk it up, going 0-5 and sitting a lot down the stretch because he wasn't giving the team anything. Chuck isn't the defender that Luck is, so when he isn't scoring, he doesn't bring much to the table. He also struggled Thursday, going 2-10 from the field.

These two have got to find their shot. We saw it again tonight, Karvel can only do so much. He's an incredible player, but he is also human. When Vel has his cold stretches, others must score the ball, and Jones/Oliver are the guys who are 'supposed' to be those guys.

These guys are good players. They are a lot better then how they have looked the past few games, and I do think both pick it up this week. If RMU can't get one of them going though, they may not make it too far in the NEC tournament.

Throw it out the door:

Fun regular season, 14-2, 19-12 overall is a damn good season. NEC Regular Season Champ's, probably an MVP and COY award too.

Nice.

Now for the time being, we can throw that out the window. Come March 5th, a new season starts.

Tournament field set:

The NEC field is set. The match-ups, all Wednesday night at 7pm are as followed.

1. RMU vs 8. FDU
2. Wagner vs 7. Central Connecticut
3. Bryant vs . St Francis PA
4. Mount vs 5. St Francis Brooklyn

The tournament re-seeds as it goes along. We will have a full tournament preview out Monday.

Sour ending to a good regular season, but let's forget about it and get ready for Wednesday.
