Women's action: RMU crushes Long Island

by Aaron Hartman, contributor

The Lady Colonials took down the Blackbirds of LIU Brooklyn Monday night by a score of 79-43.

Not much to say about this game other than the ladies did what they needed to do to make sure they didn’t give up any ground in the standings. The entire team played together and really shared the ball throughout the game. No player scored more than 20 points, and six players had at least eight points. Rebeca Navarro had a better game than I expected (10 points, three assists, one steal, one block), so the game ball goes to her.

With only four games left and a solid two game lead on second place Mount St. Mary’s, the Colonials can feel very comfortable in first place.

The only team in the top half of the conference to lose Monday night was Bryant, who lost to Mount St. Mary’s.

The final four games of the women’s team schedule have RMU matching up against the four toughest teams in the conference. RMU has won a game against all four of those teams, so even if they lose to a team, it will be a season split. The only foreseeable way for RMU to give up first place by season end is to lose two of their next three games and lose to Mount St. Mary’s in the final game of the season.

It’s looking very good for RMU as the season is coming to a close. The next women’s game is at Bryant on Saturday at 1:00 pm. The women’s team only plays one more home game this season: the final game of the season against Mount St. Mary’s. Hopefully the game will be meaningless as the regular season conference championship should be clinched by that point.
