Clinching up the NEC?

With only six games remaining in conference play, the buzz has begun about Robert Morris "running away" with the NEC regular season title. If you caught Lee's NEC recap yesterday, you would know Bryant had another strong weekend to keep pace with the Colonials.

So what's it going to take to win the NEC and clinch homecourt throughout the tournament? With six games remaining, Robert Morris is one up in the loss column to Bryant and three up on everybody else. On top of that, RMU has beaten Bryant both times the teams have squared off, effectively making it a two game lead.

I've said all along 12 wins should win this conference. I do not believe I'm alone in that sentiment either, referencing this tweet from Nelson Castillo of Blackbird Journal...

So, yeah. he might not have given an exact win total, but the point remains. To get to 12 wins, RMU has to finish the season just 3-3. Their last six games are against St. Francis (PA), Mount St. Mary's, Wagner, FDU, Long Island, or St. Francis (Brooklyn). I don't see three losses there barring injury.

Besides that, Bryant would have to finish the year at 5-1 to give them 13 wins. 12 wins won't do it because they will not win a tiebreaker against Robert Morris. Bryant's next six games are against Mount St. Mary's, Wagner, FDU, CCSU, St. Francis (Brooklyn), and LIU.

So what am I saying? It'll take a pretty serious train wreck to not win the NEC regular season title. For what it's worth, I think RMU goes 13-3 and Bryant goes 12-4.
