Game recap: tough one to swallow

RMU lost to Alabama by a score of 64-56.

This was another frustrating one. RMU started the game with a quick 9-0 run and overall played a good first half. The zone defense was unbelievably active, forcing bad shots and turnovers. RMU had their fair share of turnovers, but it was nothing like the second half.
It’s tough for words to describe how awful the second half was. RMU turned the ball over just about every possession. Then couldn’t rebound. Also, they turned the ball over. Did I mention they turned the ball over a lot in the second half? It made me very angry. Ever have the strong urge to punch your dog? That’s what I wanted to do the whole half (side note: I did not, I love my dogs). Some observations:
-Mike McFadden (knee did not play). That’s obviously a pretty big loss, just for the fact that RMU is so thin in the frontcourt. Stephan Hawkins didn’t really play too bad in his place, shooting 4-6. His defense left something to be desired, however.
--RMU’s worst performance hands down went to Jeremiah Worthem, shooting 2-7 with three rebounds, and FIVE turnovers. That’s right: one man, five turnovers. Worthem’s biggest miss came with under two minutes remaining and RMU trailing by four. Anthony Myers-Pate got a steal and led a 3-on-2 break, missed a contested layup but gave Worthem a WIDE OPEN rebound…. Which bounced around the rim and into the hands of a Crimson Tide. Bama hit a floater in the lane to effectively end the game.
-Not a great game from Kavon Stewart as well. He shot 1-4, had only one assist, and had four turnovers himself. I was shocked to see him in late in the game over Chuck Oliver.
-Some positives: Karvel Anderson did Karvel Anderson things, shooting 6-8 and 3-4 from three. He finished with 16 points. I loved Lucky Jones’ game. He missed some desperation shots late but his play kept RMU in it. No one on the team can get to the line like Lucky can. Anthony Myers-Pate is really hitting his stride. He just looks efficient.
-There are a few ways to look at this game: RMU barely lost to a good SEC school without their starting center or RMU squandered a golden opportunity. I tend to lean towards the latter. If RMU doesn’t turn the ball over 19 times they probably win this game.
-Not a whole helluva lot more to add on this end. NEC play starts next Thursday, which is all that really matters, I guess.
